Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Non-owner rental agreement.

Hi,

I rented a room from someone other that the owner.

This person (Landlord) lived there (was recruited and

moved from 100 + miles away: Sac to Oak) and was paid minimally by the owner (I think to keep squatters out).

I have rent receipts from the landlord, and most

utilities are in my name.

The owner and his wife have known of my occupancy for at least 4 mos, he has entered my room w/me to get some tools, and has paid me for help around the house.

The owner claims that he never authorized the landlord

to rent to me, and therefore I have no legal right

''as a tennant''.

Do I , yes or no?

Thx.
