Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
The original lease for my apartment was for a year and i believe it stated that at the end of the term it would roll into another year lease at a 5% increase unless otherwise negotiated. From the start we inegotiated down to 6 months, and renewed the 6 months once. Because we had agreed to a shorter lease term, is it legal for it to roll into a longer lease automatically, or would the change in terms also change the roll over length?

You are bound to what the final contract states. Since it provides a one year rollover, that is what you have.
