Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

can a new owner of a rent controlled unit just "not accept" my tenancy and not cash my rent check for four months and not do anything - such as - ask me to leave etc? The new owners accepted the other three tenants - I pay the least as I have been here 16yrs and everyone says "they want you out to get more money" they are nice enough - they just haven't answered my written questions regarding the acceptance of my tenancy or cashed my checks - they also haven't filed an unlawful detainer etc..it's awfully strange and unnerving...

If the rent control ordinance requires cause to evict, a new owner cannot terminate the tenancy just because they purchased the property.
