Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Ok, I paid a down payment for a rental house and was told by the Property Manager the house was mine, I would get the keys in a week. Later I got a call from the Property Manager saying they had found someone who would pay more money for the rental house so I could not have it. She did not cash my check but will admit she told me that the house was mine. Is there any recourse for this situation?

Did you sign a lease? If you had no lease, and possession to the home had not been delivered to you (the keys handed over), you probably cannot force them to rent you the house. You may have some cause of action for misrepresentation, but what are your damages? If you are forced to rent a more expensive property, then you may have damages, but if you can find a similar home for a similar price, there may not be much you can do.
