if only one person on a 3 person lease resigns the lease to stay longer, are the other 2 held responsible for the deposit still?

Not if they are no longer living their. No, when the lease ends, the other two are not responsible for the deposit. I wish I had more facts of the situation but from what you are telling me, the answer is no.
