Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
problems with landlord
when we signed the rental contract, the landlord wrote into our contract that we could have a storage unit, and he had to have a key made for us. Well we have lived here now for almost 5 months still have not recieved a key and someone else has moved there belongings into our storage unit. We have asked the landlords several times about the storage and they claim that they didn't know we wanted it even though it's in the contract. and that its gonna take time to figure out what there gonna tell the other tenants about the stuff in the storage. We were paying for another storage untill we could no longer afford it and now it's all pilled up inside our apartment. And they won't even give us a time schedule for when we can have it. I think it is unfare to have to pay for storage when we are already paying to live somewhere where we were supposed to have storage. Is there anything that can be done. Can we ask for a deduction on the rent or send them a bill for a storage? And now the landlord say's that she will not talk to me anymore because when we signed the rental contract the would only let one of us actually be a renter and the other would just be subleting. I still signed the rentall contract but they are renting to my boyfriend

Re: problems with landlord
You will have to carefully read your lease, as to the storage space, and your part of it.
However, if all is as you say it is with the lease, send a certified letter to the landlord(s), that you are going to be renting a storage space elsewhere, and deducting it from your rent.
You can also sue in small claims for "rent abatement" which is a refund of part of your rent, for lack of a storage space for 5 months.
