Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
A property management company says i owe them 1200 dollars and is trying to kick me out and make me pay rent. I have paid my share of the rent every month. I can provide bank statements to prove it. I have had 3 roommates or at least 3 supossedly paying roommates for my time here. When they first tried to kick me out i talked to the manager and she said that there were 8 people on the lease at the time this first took place. The ownership has changed and the new property management is trying to kick me out....what should i do and what rights do i have?

Unless you have the most tenant-friendly lease in the world, all the tenants are jointly and severally liable for the rent. That means as far as the management company is concerned you personally owe the whole rent and it's up to you to collect from your roommates. Or the manager can collect the whole rent from any other person on the lease and let them collect from you. If no one pays, you're all subject to eviction. So, you can pay the rent and collect their share from your roommates, or you can move.
