Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Property manager refused payment

A family member is admittedly behind in her rent. I sent a check to the property manager as partial payment on the account.

The property manager acknowledged that the payment was for the individual, but refused to accept it because it came from me instead of the tenant. The pm is now threatening eviction proceedings if a payment plan is not set up.

Can the pm refuse a payment then threaten the tenant for non-payment?

Re: Property manager refused payment

Most landlords will refuse to accept partial payments from anyone. I suggest you set up the payment plan and try to work things out before any eviction.
