Can I real lose my eviction case if I wasn't properly notified received the letter a day after I was due in court.

Generally, court related notices are based on when they are served, not when they are actually received. However, the Oakland rent control/eviction control ordinance is very technical, and a mere letter should not be enough to have you go to court. You need to have a tenant attorney review your situation immediately. There are also tenant rights groups which can provide you with guidance and referrals.
