Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I just received at 3 day pay or quit notice. After that 3 days, then I am served with an

unlawful detainer which I have to answer within 5 business days. If i am not home

when they try to serve me with this paper (i dogsit alot and am usually not home during the day), will they keep trying to deliver the summons, and for how long. do they also mail one to me. Can you also tell me about how long the whole eviction process takes from beginning to end?

They will try to serve you personally as long as it takes. They do not need to mail one to you unless they serve another adult in your home. After you answer, the plaintiff could ask that the trial be set within 2-3 weeks.
