I just received my notice of court date for an unlawful detainer case. I have an important business meeting scheduled for the same day and if I miss it, I may lose my job. How can I get the date changed?

I would suggest contacting the plaintiff's attorney and the court ASAP and make your request. You might have to file with the court a declaration of your unavailability and your attempts to continue the trial date, signed under penalty of perjury. Do not wait until the last minute.
