Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I recently requested a copy of my lease from my landlord, who is making all sorts of demands on my part before he will provide the lease. Is that Legal?

You have a right to see the lease. Tell him that you can not comply with any of his demands until you see whether the lease has something to the contrary.

Of course you have a right to a copy of the lease. Why were you not provided one when you first entered into it? You need to let the landlord know that it is not that you WILL NOT comply with his requests until you receive a copy, you CAN NOT until until you receive a copy.
