Re: rent

What does the writer's strike have to do with the contract you signed with your landlord? You are bound by any contract you sign unless the other side breaches it in a material fashion. If your landlord were a Hollywood producer who because of the strike discovered he could no longer afford his penthouse suite and move back into the small house he had leased to you, could he evict you? No. So why should you be able to "evict' him as your landlord?

The fact that you have no money makes you basically judgment proof, so you can go to the landlord and try to work out a mutually satisfactory arrangement. Perhaps if you have a good work history and have been a good tenant, he will give you a few months of reduced rent in return for somewhat higher payments in the future. that may be cheaper for him then having to evict you and find a new tenant. Or

if he has a big ego, use his name in the next copy of scripts you write. Or maybe he needs some work on the place that you can do.
