Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Rent
I rent from a friend who also lives in the unit. I understand that to raise the rent the landlord needs to give you at least 30 day written notice. Is this true? Also since I pay the bills too, am I able to look at the bills to see the charges? our agreement for paying the rent is it is due on the 4th. I have heard different things about how much time you have to pay the rent. I s it true that you technicaly have 1 week to pay the rent? Thank you very much?

Re: Rent
Rent increases require a 30 day notice, or a 60 day notice if the increase is more than 10%.
If you are paying a percentage of the utilities, you are entitled to look at the bills.
You do not "technically" have a week to pay rent. If it is due on the 1st, and is not paid on that day, then the landlord can give a 3-day notice to pay or quit (move) on the 2nd.
