Rent Refund
Can I legally go after a previous landlord, to return my rent if I never signed a lease and all I have is a receipt of money paid to him for August rent? Seeing that I moved out before July 31st?

Usually such tenancies are month-to-month. If you didn't give 30 days' notice, then it was expected you would remain in the apartment in August. It wouldn't hurt to talk with the landlord and see if you could get at least some of it back if the apartment was re-rented.
