rental agreement

What happens if I sign the contract to rent a apartment for 1 year but my wife said she does not like it and does not want to move in ? And I even paid the deposit $300.

Does the land lord still can claim the rent even though we don't want to move ?

You need to supply more information. Was it a condition of the rental that your wife also had to approve; if it was, there is no fully executed contract and you are home free. If not, then you have a contract with the landlord; you can probably buy out of it by giving up the $300 [which is a very cheap cleaning deposit].
