Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Rental Amount on Sublease

For 6 months I've been renting my apartment as a sublease. The landlord said the management company is allowing them to sublease. Today I got in the mail that the rent for the unit is increasing to $933. For the last 6months, I've been paying $1400, not knowing the original rent was $900. Is he breaking the law? What rights do I have as far as getting back any money I've paid extra in the last 6months?

Re: Rental Amount on Sublease

The primary tenant has a right to charge whatever price he can for the apartment; regardless of the rent he is paying. If he can make money by subletting it, that is legal.
