Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
When a rental unit (which is a master bedroom with connecting bathroom in a single family residence) becomes uninhabitable due to the tenant's gross negligence, is it the landlord's responsibility to find and/or pay for outside housing while the extensive repairs are being made?

No, not if the tenant has done the damage themselves through their gross negligence. In fact you can evict them for it and sue for the repairs.
