Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
We rented a condo in San Diego, CA with a one-year lease to care for my daughter with Cancer. We paid every month on time with a deposit upfront. They assured us we could leave a few months earlier if we needed. We attempted to email and call to work something out because we needed to leave one month early, with no response. A debt collector is calling me every day now and threatening to ruin my credit if I don't pay. I still have the email and txt msgs I sent. Can I negotiate a smaller amount or do I have to pay the entire amt. I do not feel they played fair.

Dispute in writing within 30 days of receiving any correspondence that attempts to collect the alleged debt. That will prevent any negative credit reporting. If you are sued, you should be able to defend with the evidence you have.
The big question I have for you right now is whether or not this collection agency is attempting to collect a judgment, or otherwise seeking some unspecified unliquidated damage amount.
