Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I am a renter in California, if I am late on my rent can the landlord contact my work and leave a message on my bosses' voice mail with personal information, such as how much I owe or if a check was returned from the bank?

Absolutely not. Please read the following: http://www.dca.ca.gov/publications/legal_guides/dc-2.shtml

You (or your attorney) must prepare a letter to your landlord advising him/her that he/she is violating the California (& Federal) Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.
