Renting apartments

Is it legal for a landlord to charge more rent because two people will stay in a studio instead of one?

Re: Renting apartments

Assuming you are not in an area of rent control, landlord can charge what he/she wants to, and, of course, tenant has to accept the terms and conditions, or look elsewhere.

If you are already a tenant, and an extra person is moving in, you need to read your lease, and see if there is a provision covering this.

If you need more, please feel free to contact my office, by e-mail or phone.

Two people use more water, electricity, etc., create more dust and wear and tear on the furniture, etc. Any economic reason the landlord should not charge more for the second person?
