Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Renting to Minors

I'm 17, and would like to rent a room

from someone. Is there any way I can

do this? (I am not emancipated, but

my parents have not objected to me

moving out). I have a part job and am

still in school.

Re: Renting to Minors

You cannot enter into a contract, but the contract is more to protect the other person. You can always disavow the contract if you entered into it under the age of 18.

It is best to become emancipated.

See if your parent's will co-sign the rental agreement; that means they also are fully responsible for your renting.

Re: Renting to Minors

You need to become emancipated.

Technically, you cannot enter into a contract because of your age.

The following web page should help.http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/selfhelp/family/emancip/emansteps.htm

Good luck!
