Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Renting Room From Leaseholders
I rent a room in a large house from the tenants who apparently have a lease. We have only an oral agreement.
I just found out they are behind on the rent and utilities.
If the landlord evicts them, how can I protect myself and my belongings? I doubt they would tell me if eviction proceedings have started.
Would it be wise to contact the landlord? He's also an attorney.
I'm getting ready to be out on a moments notice!
Thank you!

In all practicality, I would move ASAP. You don't need the turmoil. I doubt if there's a way to protect yourself, especially if the tenants are taking your money and not paying the landlord with it.

You need to consult an attorney as your situation is more complicated.
