Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Repair

My electricity is out in my apartment. The electrical breaker keeps blowing out (today) . I contacted my landlord. She said that she will try to contact an electrician, but that she might not get someone today. There are 24 hour services available, but she likes to only use people she knows (knows their work). Is this legal?

I have answered this twice, and somehow it is not registering.

Re: Repair

Try it again.

Tell your landlady you want it repaired TODAY! If you call, also send certified letter, return receipt requested.

You can also "repair and deduct". You pay for repairs, and deduct from the rent, but you have to give her a few more days, and I am simplifying this.

Call fair housing, or local building inspector, and that should help.

You can withhold rent (not a good idea, here).

You can tell her you are moving to a motel until repairs are made, and you expect landlady to pay lodging and meals.

E-mail, or call my office, if you need more.

Other than that
