Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

What are my rights as a current tenant and witness for my landlord? He is currently being sued by ex-tenants and I dont trust his Insurance appointed attorney and now my landlord. I was also being harrassed by the ex-tenants and had advanced Cancer at the time. The landlord did nothing to protect me. I am not suing but I am affraid that he insurance attorneys will deflect blaim and they have not acted ethically toward me to date.

As a witness you have the obligation to tell the truth; your landlord's attorney will probbly subpoena you to attend the trial [you are entitled to a witness fee of around $30 and a mileage fee plus bridge tolls and parking fees--I forget the exact numbers now-which is supposed to be offfered to you when you get the subpoena to appear]. Since the tenants are not suing you, and since they probably are wel aware of your role in the matter, you can not be brought in as a defendant so blame being shifted toward you will likely not have any economic consequence. if you feel the attorney has acted unethically, call him/her and tell them so and ask for an explanation.
