Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Roommate on lease

I just got engaged recently and want to get out of my lease with my roommate, who by the way I dont get along with, and the feeling is mutual. Now we are both on the lease, and I am trying to find another person to take over my part of the lease. My roommate stated that he doesnt care, Im stuck, and he will not approve anyone I try to get signed to take over. Do I have any legal recourse?

Re: Roommate on lease

You are part of a contract, which is binding.

You need to read the release and see if any provisions permit your ex-roommie to behave this way.

Normally, anyone with good credit approved by landlord (the other party to the lease) would be acceptable, regardless of your (apparently) jilted ex.
