Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

hello. i have a roommate who is not paying rent. he is not on the lease and did not sign any papers. i have locked him out and away from his stuff until i recieve my money. Is what I am doing wrong and is there anything i can do to get my money? thank you for your time.

You can be sued for locking him out. How long was he living there? You have to evict lawfully.
