Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
security deposit
we paid 700 dollars for a security deposit. they charged us to rip out and replace the carpet cause they said our cats urinated on it which they didnt. we paid a pet diposit which should have covered it. after that they also charged us for spraying for flees but there would be no place for flees to be if there is new carpet. we paid our full security deposit and now they are billing us for an extra 250 dollars. is there any way to fight this?

Re: security deposit
You should refuse to pay, and fight them in small claims court.
You should retain an attorney who has a knowledge of landlord tenant laws (Most lawyers do not) as letter to the landlord from an attorney should produce some results.
You need to fight the cat urine deposit battle in front of a judge, if a lawyer cannot make a reasonable compromise.
