Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

security deposit refund

I have just moved out of an apartment I rented for a year and a half. I left it very clean but the walls needed paint. Will I be charged for painting out of my deposit or is it considered normal wear and tear?

Re: security deposit refund

To a degree, it depends upon what the local courts consider "wear and tear." I've found that in dealing with security deposits, and questions of what is normal wear and tear, different courts have slightly different standards. In a year and a half, I would generally not consider paint to be normal wear and tear, so I would be prepared that they may deduct that from your deposit.
