Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Security deposit refund

I rented a house in San Diego for a week. The security deposit of $1000 was supposed to be returned within 3 to 5 days after departure, per the contract. It is now 17 days later and we still have not received the deposit. The owners lives in Arizona; we live in Northern California. What are my options if it is not returned?

Re: Security deposit refund

Was the contract signed in California? I assume it was, but it may have been signed through the mail, e-mail, fax, etc.

You obviously may have to sue. The question is where!

Please e-mail my office with details of the negotiations, and signing, and I'll give you an answer.

It also would probably be worth your while to retain an attorney to write a letter to the owner(s).
