Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Security Depost Accured Interest

I was told by a law professor that in California a tenant can ask the landlord to place the security deposit in a savings account that accures interest. The deposit plus interest would be returned to the tenant when vacating the premises, providing there is no damage to the premises.

Is this correct? If yes, is there a cite you can give?

Thank you.

Re: Security Depost Accured Interest

You can ask, but they are not required to do so unless so stated in the lease or rental agreement.
