Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I'm a single mother that leaves in Sacramento, CA with 4 children and 1 grandchild. I have been renting this home for approximately 2 years. The owners knew I got paid on the 15th and that I would pay the rent than. Around October 9th I was informed by the owners tha they wanted us to evacuate the house ASAP because I was late on my rent and that if I did not pay immediately I was also going to incurr the legal costs for them hiring a lawyer. I was stuned, they took me by surprise. I talked to the lanlord and informed him that I was going to pay my rent on the 15th and he said o.k.. I did pay my October rent on the 15th and on the 16th a Sherif shows up at my door with an evacuation warrant informing me that we have 5 days to evacuate the house. You can imagine my shocked, after I paid the rent I'm informed I have been demanded to evacuate, I don't understand why they want us out in such an urgency!! Since I just paid them the rent i have no money left nor enough time to look for a place to move to. I'm not sure if this nightmare is for real and don't understand why this is happening?! I need more time to get myself together, try to see where I could borrow some funds, find a place to move and move. The least they could do is give to the end of the month, since I already paid the rent for the Month. But honestly I don't know why they are treating me like this after 2 years and so suddenly?!!! I don't know my rights and I don't know what can I do; I don't have money for a lawyer and don't know who can help or to whom I need to talk to. I'm Diabetic and this has shocked me, by the grace of God I'm still standing. My sister is tryin to find me some help while the Clock is ticking. We have to be out no later than Tuesday October 20th. What can we do is such a short notice nothing, nothing. We are citizen's don't we have rights Please help!!!

Your story doesn't make sense. The sherriff doesn't just show up with an eviction warrant without a lot of steps happening before that, including an Unlawful Detainer trial. In any case, whatever has happened you should go to the Advisory Clinic first thing Monday morning:

Unlawful Detainer Advisory Clinic

Carol Miller Justice Center, 301 Bicentennial Circle, Outside Room 330

Monday - Friday 8:00 am -12:00 pm & 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Services provided: Assistance for landlords and tenants with forms, preparing cases for trial, filing post-judgment motions, etc.

Eligibility: First come- first served, walk-in only.
