Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Squeaky Floors

I just moved into a new apartment and I'm on the bottom floor. When my neighbors walk above me, my ceiling squeaks so loudly that it wakes me up at night. The sound of their footsteps and conversation I dont mind so much, but the squeaky floors are highly annoying. I've already complained to my apt. manager and she says there is nothing she can do about it, which I don't understand because squeaky floors CAN be remedied. I would prefer not to move, as I've already signed the 1-year lease and have all my furniture moved in. How do I get my landlady to fix it?

Re: Squeaky Floors

Start with a certified letter to landlady outlining problems.

You can then repair and deduct, or withhold rent. Also, you can move (I know you don't want to) because of interference with your right to quiet enjoyment of the premises.
