Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

in the state of CA, if im in a month to month lease with another tenant also on the leaseand that tenant dies am i still required to give 30 day notice to the landlord? Also the landlord says in order for me to get the entire deposit back im required to get a letter from the deceased tenants family, is this true?

If you do not want to live there anymore, you need to give a thirty days notice. Why would the death of the other tenant change that? if both of you put up the deposit, then the landlord needs an assurance that the dead person's estate will not demand part of the security deposit be paid to them. Why should you get the entire amount back if you did not put up the entire amount?
