Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
I am subletting an apartment in Los Angeles. It turns out the renter (whom I am subletting from) is doing this illegally. The landlord wants to move to evict the renter. Am I also evicted? Do I have any rights? I have been there over a year.
Above is basically my question, but it gets more complicated in that the landlord wants me to convince the renter to do this "easily" (voluntarily). If I succeed in this he says I will be able to take over the lease, but if I don't he will consider me as a part of this whole arrangement and evict us both. I don't really have a question there.. just looking for any insights you might have. Also, the renter lives in New York, just FYI.

You should go talk to the LA rent board about your situation. There are special rules and rights you have in the City of LA that they are best equipped to help you with.
