Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Should I sue my old apartment for charging me for a carpet replacement after they returned all my deposit. Will suing them stop them from sending me to collections. I don't want my credit to be ruined.

they can not send you to collections without first getting a judgment against you, which requies them to have a trial that they notify you of. Depending on how much they want and whether they think you have assets, they may never file suit against you. You can not sue them because the do not owe you anything.
