Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Not tearing down building, do I have to leave?
My building was sold a few months ago & the new owner said he was tearing it down. Now he's not but still wants me to leave. 3 months ago he filed an unlawful detainer against me & a couple other tenants. In order for him to reverse it we had to pay him $1,000 each because that's how much he said each detainer costs to file. We had to sign that we would leave at the end of November but he's showing the vacant apartments to new tenants. I don't want an eviction on my credit record, but can he do this?
Thank you

Re: Not tearing down building, do I have to leave?
What you bring up is very strange. If you were not behind on the rent and the LL sued you for unlawful detainer, then the LL is wrong. You should post more facts, including whether or not your rent was late and whether you received proper notice (3-day, 30-day, etc.) Good luck.
