I am a Tenant Owners are now in Foreclosure/Trustee Sale/They did not inform us/Breach Contract Rental Agreement? Forfeit Lease? I live in Riverside, California
The owners of my house have let the house go into Foreclosure and into Trustee Sale. Have they breached the Rental Agreement/contract by letting the home go into foreclosure? Also the owners have not informed us, the tenants on any of this information regarding the Trustee Sale. We found out by the notice posted on our door. Is there a law that requires the owners to inform us?

Once the sale actually happens the owners will be in breach of the lease. They are not, however, under any legal duty to keep you informed. Also, there is a relatively new federal statute that protects you from being immediately evicted once the new owner buys the property. If I recall correctly it provides that you are allowed to stay until your lease is up or 90-days, whichever is longer. That is, of course, as long as you "attorn" to the new owner, which means pay your rent and fulfill all your obligations under the lease.
