Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Tenant Rights

I have a six month lease and have only lived in the house for 2 1/2 months. My landlord just informed me that I have to be out by July because his daughter is leaving her husband and she needs a place to live. What are my rights?

Re: Tenant Rights

Assuming you are not in breach of the lease, your landlord can not make you leave early.

You may be able to negotiate with landlord and get him to agree to pay your moving costs and some other costs if you agree to vacate before the six months are up.

Re: Tenant Rights

I agree with Mr. Wiener.

The reason may make sense, but you and landlord have a contract.

If you cannot negotiate on your own, I strongly suggest you retain an attorney to write a strong letter to landlord. This seems to work more often than not.

Please feel free to e-mail my office, if you find you need more help.

Good luck!
