Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

tenants rights with eviction

I live in California with three other people. we are all 18 years old-about 25. we had some trouble getting on our feet and it seems like the landlord doesnt have a heart or something. My boyfriend is a construction worker and work was slow...and i was unemployed...my previous job was actually as a leasing consultant at the very complex i live in. but i finally have a new job and my boyfriend is booked with work. so now we have a stable income and then we get served. is there anyway that we can pay what we owe and not get evicted?? we both have been thru soo much this past year we finally just got on our feet and we get knocked down...

Remember a landlord is in the business to make money, which means collecting the rent.

You did not indicate what you were served with, however, if it is a pay rent or quit, and the time has not run, you can pay the landlord and cure the notice. If you have been served with an unlawful detainer complaint, then you have 5 days to file a response (assumes you were personally served with complaint).

If you have been good tenants and there are no other issues, you landlord might be wiling to accept the back rent and any other costs incurred and permitted by your lease. I suggest you contact an attorney.
