Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Tennant breahc of contract

I rented a room from a lady, I signed I agreement stating I would live there a minimun of 4 months. After 2.5 months I was asked to leave (or rather forced). Now she has obtained the services of a debt collection agency on the grounds I breached the contract by not staying 4 months. I feel this is unjust as I was forced to leave and had no say in the matter. Is there anything I can do, is it worth disputing?

It depends on why you were asked/forced to leave. If you were doing something that violated the lease or some illegal activity, then I wouldn't suggest contesting it. Otherwise, you can go to small claims court.

How were you forced to leave? By letter? By court order? By being physically locked out?

As Mr. Cohen has stated, it is hard to answer based on your statement.

Please resubmit with clearer facts, or question.
