I am terminating my lease agreement at the end of the lease term. I have given the landlord a notice. I gave them 54 days notice I have received a letter telling me that I have to pay for the first seven days for the month after I will have moved out. at the month to month rate basically they want me to pay $338.57 for a week I will not be here. Can they do this? I've lived here since 2009 and have had a yearly lease the entire time I was under the impression that a 30 day notice was all I needed to give.

Unless your lease provides for a different time frame, the amount of notice you need to give is the equivalent of the amount of time between rent payments. If you are month to month, then 30 days notice is all that is legally required and 54 days is plenty.
