Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

what do i do about a three-day notice to covenant or quit?

on friday the 4th of july i was served this notice. now this lawyer knew i wouldn't be able to get a hold of anyone over a long holiday weekend to ask advice. LAHD has already sent me a letter advising me that we can keep our animals and that this landlord cannot make us get rid of them after 30 years of living here and having animals. this notice that the lawyer suddenly gave us that we have 3 days to get rid of our animals or they will proceed with legal action. can this affect my credit rating and is this legal after the city has already said that we are allowed my two animals? i am going to call the city early monday morning but it does make me nervous that this might go on to my credit rating. we are thinking of takeing my animals with my sister intil i can talk to the city. is this the right thing to do or can i do anything else?

Serving a 3 day notice on a holiday is immaterial.

You also need to calm down. This is not the end of the world.

I assume the notice says to get rid of animals, and not that you are behind in the rent.

This will NOY affect your credit rating. An eviction will cripple it, but that is a judge's decision, not a piece of paper.

Don't bother the city, and don't take your animals to your sister.

Do nothing and wait for them to file eviction papers (unlawful detainer). When they do SERVE you with papers, e-mail my office, and I'll tell you what to do next.

There is not a problem, unless your last lease mentions pets. Read your last lease carefully, and see if there are provisions for pets, or not pets.

Stay calm!
