Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Is there a time limit on bounced checks?

I moved out of my apartment Jan 1st. My landlord owes us $1500 for deposit (by 21 days after we moved out). He just notified me today the 23rd of Jan. that my boyfriend had a bounced check back in September. That is 5 months ago. Is there a time limit on notifying tenants about bounced checks? He wants to take that out of our deposit.

No. He's entitled to do so. Is it the full check, or only the bank fee? Maybe he should clarify that.
