Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I wasn't told of sale of property - paid rent to old landlord

The property I was renting was sold & I wasn't notified for 2 years! During those 2 years, I continued to pay rent to the previous landlord, she never uttered a word about the sale. In fact, when I was a bit late one month, she showed up and got really nasty!! She wanted ''her'' money!! I was told that I was devious, coniving and dishonest!! Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!! Anyway, do I have any legal recourse in terms of getting those 2 years' rent back from her since I was totally mislead and deceived? Is she guilty of some form of fraudulent behavior??

This isn't necessarily your battle to fight. For all you know, she could have been acting as the authorized property manager of the buyer (if the property was really sold). You've lived in the property and paid the requested rent for two years without incident. Unless the new owner comes looking for you and demands the rent from you, you really don't have much recourse. You received what you agreed to pay for. If it does become an issue, explain the situation to the new owner and hopefully they will go after her instead of bothering you.
