Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Unlawful Detainer (EVICTION)

The Landlord of the home I am renting is sending me to court. I pay all the rent and give it to The City of Los Angeles because the house is in program (REAP). I went to Inner City Law and spoke to Aura Castro Yuson and she told me i needed to get a lawyer. The thing is I do not have money to get a lawyer. I have 4 kids to maintain and my husband left us about 4 days ago. I need help. What do i do? The sheriff came and gave me a notice of eviction and told me I had 5 days to file a letter and make a copy for the plantiff. Help me!!!! PLEASE

Re: Unlawful Detainer (EVICTION)

Immediately seek help from free legal services -- even Legal Aid. Others include Bet Tzedek and Public Counsel. There might even be an Eviction Defense Center in Los Angeles, although I'm not sure about that. Try to contact someone in the REAP program to find out what's going on.
