Utility bills
Is it legal to demand that a house renter pay the utilities for an attached granny unit that has no meters? It includes gas, electric, water and garbage. It is in the contract but, was not noticed when signing. Thanks.

Is it legal? Yes! Can you do anything about? Maybe! I assume it is unoccupied. Also, ask landlord if her(she) mind if you disconnected utilities for the unit. But, since you signed the lease, and that provision was in it, you would have difficulty avoiding the costs of the utilities.
