Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
I am utilizing my sec. 8 voucher at a privately owned Senior Citizen 55 and up apt. complex. Can landlord/Management Company require I purchase $100,000 Home owners Liability insurance policy? And they are strongly suggesting the use of their own Insurance Company, which is obviously a conflict of interest and prone to kick backs.

A landlord can require renters insurance including liability coverage. They can't require home owners insurance since renters don't own the property. As for the carrier they can recommend whatever carrier they want and as long as they don't try to mandate it, the tenants can go along, or not and find their own insurance.
