Can I video tape my front yard even if the neighbors house is in view? Is it invasion of privacy of the neighbor?

Re: video taping

It may depend upon what part of their house is in your video and if you can avoid taping that part. If the taping does not show anything inside their house there is no problem as they have no reasonable expectation of privacy as to the outside of their home as it is fully within public view. They do have an expectation of privacy within their house but not as to anything that can be seen plainly through the windows.

If you can turn the camera so that it does not show anything inside their house you will have better relations with them. Would you want them to do what you are doing? If they have complained to you, have an open discussion with them as to why you are doing it and how you can not avoid including their house in the video.
