Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Ok here goes my wife and I are separated, and I signed on the lease for a house we were renting. I moved out of course she even changed the locks to prevent me from getting access. There are 6 months left on the lease- am I obligated to pay half of that? One factor perhaps of importance is that I am unemployed. We reside in Califorinia.

She told me "not to worry about it" in an email but that is no legal document and as the divorce proceeds I fear she will change her mind and come after me for that money.

As between you and the landlord, you are responsible for 100% and so is she. Meaning the landlord can go after either one of you for the rent. As between you and her, however, the person occupying the marital home has the obligation to pay for it, regardless of whether you rent or own (though it is a bit more complicated than that if you own the home).
